Domestic worker pay increases of P1-K are approved by the NCR wage board.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) stated on Wednesday that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) had granted a PHP1,000 raise in the compensation of domestic workers (“kasambahay”).
In a virtual forum, DOLE spokesman Rolly Francia said, “The Secretary (Silvestre Bello III) would like to announce that the National Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board just approved this afternoon a wage increase for our kasambahays of an additional PHP1,000 a month, bringing the monthly take-home of our kasambahays in the National Capital Region to PHP6,000 a month.”
An estimated 200,000 domestic workers in Metro Manila will benefit from the wage increase.
“In the NCR, over 60% of which are live-in kasambahays,” he said.
Francia explained that one board member had signed the order with reservations, therefore the choice was not made unanimously.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) will get the decision as it is being relayed and will analyze it before approving it, he added.
Francia expressed his optimism that the NWPC will uphold the order on Thursday.
While this was going on, he stated that just two regional wage boards, Calabarzon and Soccsksargen, had yet to raise wages for home workers.
Francia stated that these regional wage boards should present their recommendations this week or before the end of June.
