PRRD is praised by Lorenzana for its “people-centered” leadership

President Rodrigo R. Duterte, whose leadership he characterized as “people-centered,” is leaving his position as secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND), and Delfin Lorenzana said it was an honor to have worked with him.

“President Rodrigo R. Duterte, please accept my gratitude. Serving the country under your excellent and people-centered leadership is both an honor and a privilege “He stated this on Thursday in a Facebook post.

Lorenzana claimed in the same article that the Chief Executive had given him an award for his crucial contribution to the nation’s pandemic response.

“I earned the Lakandula Award-Degree of Grand Cross from President Duterte on June 16 at a low-key ceremony for leading the National Task Force against Covid 19. (NTF-Covid-19). I sincerely accepted the medal on behalf of the NTF-Covid 19 members who labored persistently and effectively to combat the Covid infection “Added he.

On June 30, 2016, Lorenzana was appointed the 36th defense secretary of the nation. He brought to the DND his knowledge in special operations, foreign military affairs, public diplomacy, veteran affairs, and strategic leadership.

He graduated from the 1973 class of the Philippine Military Academy.

Lorenzana had earlier said that the Duterte administration has put a lot of effort into helping the Philippines develop a respectable defensive posture to safeguard its sizable marine regions.
A considerable increase in the naval surface and marine air patrols has been made, according to Lorenzana, by the AFP in order to defend the nation’s key border regions and exclusive economic zone.

Lorenzana is particularly glad to mention that during his administration, the AFP started ongoing operations against violent extremists and communist insurgents, which lessened these serious security risks.

“The DND supported operations through the AFP that helped to undermine the communist terrorist organization and revive the government’s initiative for reintegrating ex-rebels and violent extremists. Since 2016, thousands of rebels, violent extremists, and their followers have joined the legal system, significantly decreasing their support on the ground “Added he.

According to Lorenzana, the DND also made international defense and security engagements a priority. Through these engagements, agreements with both conventional and unconventional security partners were forged, advancing the Philippines’ aspirations to become a strategic player in the Asia-Pacific region.

The DND advanced good governance practices under the Duterte administration in order to improve the organization’s capacity to carry out its mission.

Only the top AFP officers are eligible for the highest military positions under Republic Act 11709.

“This law’s main goal is to give general officers enough time—three years of service in grade—to perform their duties. They are retired if they are not elevated to the subsequent grade. This guarantees that only the best officers go up the leadership hierarchy. As a result, the 1979 retirement law’s revolving door effect on the AFP leadership is likewise eliminated “explained Lorenzana.

According to the new law, the inspector general, chief of staff of the AFP, vice chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, and leaders of the major services (Army, Navy, and Air Force) would all hold three-year terms in office “unless sooner terminated by the President.”

Only during times of war or other officially declared national crises may the President extend the AFP chief of staff’s tour of service.
