Bautista is welcomed by PCG as DOTr chief.

On Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) hailed Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s selection of former Philippine Airlines (PAL) president Jaime Bautista as his secretary of transportation.

PCG Commandant CG Admiral Artemio Abu recognized Bautista’s 26 years of service with Philippine Airlines in a statement.

“The incoming secretary may rest assured that he will have the support of the PCG in providing necessary services to the public, especially in improving the transportation sector for the welfare of every Filipino,” Abu said. “Makaasa ang ating DOTr Secretary na nasa likod niya ang PCG tungo sa pagbibigay ng mga kinakailangang serbisyo sa ating mga kaba

He pointed out that under Bautista, the PCG is expected to continue growing and expanding, particularly with regard to the PCG’s modernization initiative.

He stated, “We trust President-elect Marcos and his choice to name Mr. Bautista as the country’s future transportation chief. Nagtitiwala kami kay President-elect Marcos at kanyang desyon na italaga ni Mr. Bautista.”

In addition to announcing Bautista’s appointment on Thursday, Marcos also named Cheloy Garafil as the head of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Cesar Chavez as the transport undersecretary for rails, and Christopher Pastrana as the general manager of the Philippine Ports Authority.

Bautista held many positions at PAL, including chief financial officer from 1994 to 1999, executive vice president from 1999 to 2004, president from 2004 to 2012, and president from 2014 to 2019.
