The NDRRMC calls on Filipinos to band together to build disaster resilience.
To achieve disaster resilience and promote growth, the populace must band together and cooperate.
This decision was taken by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday, the first day of the “National Disaster Resilience Month” celebration (NDRM).
The agency stated: “The NDRRMC, through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), again leads the month-long celebration of NDRM beginning on July 1 and ending on July 29, 2022 with the theme: “Sambayanang Pilipino, nagkakaisa tungo sa katatagan at maunlad na kinabukasan. ” which seeks to advocate unity towards resilience and sustainable development.
The OCD previously stressed the need for a concerted effort in the achievement of preparing and securing communities. The government’s goal of establishing safer communities will be greatly aided by public cooperation, it was noted.
To officially begin the anniversary, opening rituals were broadcast live on the social media accounts of NDRRMC and Civil Defense Philippines on Friday.
“Similar to last year, a monthly Thursday webinar series called “Resilience Hours” will be held. The four DRRM subject areas of disaster prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and rehabilitation and recovery will all be included in the discussion topics, “said the NDRRMC.
The NDRRMC also established a number of competitions as part of the pre-activities of NDRM to promote public engagement in the commemoration. From June 13 through June 30, entries were accepted for the slogan competition and the music composition competition.
Between July 1 and July 20, entries for the Resilience Video Contest will be accepted in three categories: What’s in your Go Bag?; How about Para Kanino Ka Bumabangon? A family that prepares together is safe together.”
The NDRRMC is once more urging the general public to take part in all NDRM-related activities as well as in the programs and initiatives of other NDRRMC-member organizations that aim to increase community resilience “the agency stated.
It is the responsibility of the Regional DRRMCs, Local DRRMCs, and Barangay Committee to carry out NDRM-related activities and programs.
The organizations that make up the NDRRMC are likewise prepared to carry out their own NDRM activities.
NDRM must be observed “throughout the nation through the conduct of activities related to the construction of disaster resilience across the four thematic areas,” according to Executive Order No. 29, which was signed by the previous president Rodrigo Duterte on June 28, 2017.
