Trade fair fails to recover pandemic losses for MSMEs.

Negros Oriental’s micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) anticipate a positive recovery from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic with the support of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to market their goods and services.

Esperanza “Hope” Melgar, the DTI Assistant Regional Director, stated in a video message played during the opening of the Experience: 6200 Pop Up Creatives Fair and Negros Oriental Trade Fair on Friday that MSMEs are now being prioritized.

She continued, “We intend to give people greater knowledge of the significance of the trade industry, which is one of the main forces behind our economy.

According to her, the event honors the coordinated efforts made by DTI and its partner agencies and organizations to develop strategies and numerous tactics to support MSMEs for growth and sustainability.

In addition to attending the trade fair’s launch, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo stated that he is considering working with DTI to make this a “permanent basis” event rather than just an annual one.

He said that there is room for this in the Pantawan neighborhood along the boulevard, where Barangay Calindagan is now expanding two to four reclamation sites.

“The display has a room here. Maybe we may seek the business community for assistance,” Remollo suggested.

The provincial DTI is currently renting an office in a downtown building, therefore the mayor also offered them space in the government facility in Barangay Bajumpadan.

Remollo claimed that other government organizations are already considering erecting their own structures on land owned by the Bajumpandan city administration.

These include the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the province and city offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The MSMEs who have been working on new items throughout the pandemic lockdown will be featured at the creatives and trade exhibition, which will take place from July 1 to 7 at a neighborhood mall in this capital.

The now-renamed event was introduced in 2018 to highlight arts, local crafts, and other businesses.

The DTI added that musicians, fashion designers, animators, and painters would also be included.

A similar event called Experience: Padayon at Dakong Balay, which runs from July 3 to 30, will showcase digital artwork created by regional Negros Oriental artists.

The DTI will conclude this year-long project with an exhibition.
