Residents of Ilocos benefit from shore protection and road rehabilitation.

Protection from flooding has been provided by the restored flood control structure in Agoo town, La Union, while vehicles and locals may now travel more safely thanks to the completion of a barangay road in Mangaldan town, Pangasinan.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Region public information officer Esperanza Tinaza said in a statement on Monday that PHP38.3 million was used to fund the 653 lineal meters long, 14-groin flood control structures in barangays San Julian Norte and San Julian West in Agoo town.

Under the General Appropriations Act of 2021, the sum was used to pay for the rehabilitation and extension of the damaged coastal protection works, or groins.

“It (the project) continues to make sure that locals and buildings close to the beach are safeguarded in case of an increase in sea level or water surge, which typically occurs during typhoons. Beachgoers now frequently congregate around the shore protection structure, particularly at dusk, according to Tinaza.

A new 1.07-lineal-kilometer concrete road in Barangay Navaluan, Mangaldan Town, Pangasinan, according to Tinaza, has put an end to concerns about car damage and accidents brought on by poor road conditions.

“Residents won’t have to put up with the muddy and slippery road during heavy rains anymore, (caused by) the deteriorating road,” she said.

According to Tinaza, the General Appropriations Act of 2022 provided funding for the PHP4.9 million road improvement.

When face-to-face instruction resumes, the pupils and teachers will benefit from the concreted road’s access to Navaluan Elementary School, she continued.
