Using the chief’s name in their solicitations, scammers are warned by DOLE.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) warned the public on Friday about scammers posing as Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma and asking for money in exchange for what they claim will be favorable resolutions to complaints about the organization.

Director of the DOLE Information and Publication Service (IPS), Rolly Francia, issued a statement in which he stated that the “labor department strongly condemns such malicious acts that seek to place the DOLE in a negative light and ruin the good name of the Labor Secretary.”

This happened when they learned that certain businesses and employers had been contacted by callers posing as the labor head and demanding payment.

At the same time, he urged everyone to report such calls to authorities, especially those who might receive them.

The IPS director continued, “DOLE strongly encourages the public to report such illegal and illicit acts to the closest DOLE Regional offices or call DOLE Hotline 1349.”

Silvestre Bello III was replaced as chairwoman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, the Philippines’ representative office in Taiwan, by Laguesma on July 1 of last year.
