Tuesday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. stated that science, technology, and innovation (STI) are essential to accelerating economic growth. The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) repeated this statement.

In a statement, PCIEERD cited Marcos’ proclamation during his first State of the Nation Address on Monday: “His (Marcos’) 19 priority bills indicate his appreciation on how the Philippines may ride the technological tsunami towards sustainable development.”

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, or the period of exponential technology adoption, was mentioned by the President.

The PCIEERD stated that it continues to work toward Industry 4.0, stressing that the technologies Marcos listed are being created by academics who are innovating them so they may be used directly by businesses and the general public.

According to the statement, “DOST (Department of Science and Technology) and PCIEERD have invested PHP1.227 billion on 268 projects in the information and communication technology sector during the previous ten years, using technologies that are ready for implementation.”

It further stated that Filipino researchers had created the necessary technologies and had them ready for deployment in order to launch e-governance and e-commerce.

According to the PCIEERD, rules will eventually help these domestically produced technology gain traction in the market.
