The public and commercial sectors’ initiatives and outstanding accomplishments in promoting ethical mining will be honored in Ilocos Norte.

This was confirmed on Monday by the province administrator, Yvette Convento-Leynes, who said that the awarding of outstanding partners is scheduled for July 27 to coincide with a provincial mining summit at the JLP Resort in Barangay Suba, Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

She emphasized the significance of the quarry industry as a significant local revenue source in the province, saying that one of the summit’s highlights was to recognize and give special awards to our outstanding quarry permittees who adhere to our rules and regulations as well as those who assist us in apprehending violators.

The only way to express gratitude for their contributions to the province, she continued, is in this way.

The recipients have not yet been revealed by the provincial administration.

According to the Provincial Quarry Office, there are currently 22 industrial sand and gravel permittees and roughly 60 commercial sand and gravel permit holders.

The mining summit, which is being held by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environment and Management Bureau in collaboration with the government of Ilocos Norte, intends to address critical issues and concerns for the region’s minerals industry.

To keep them informed of new mining rules and best practices, attendees are expected to include both current quarry permittees and new permit applicants.

The Provincial Quarry Office, a division of the provincial government, received praise from the Commission on Audit earlier for boosting quarry collections to PHP43.8 million in 2021 from PHP26.8 million the year before.
