DOLE allocates P50-M for the temporary hire of earthquake victims.

The magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Northern Luzon early on Wednesday has cost PHP50 million, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which would use the money to find employees who need emergency employment.

The initial sum, according to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, will aid in funding the hiring of personnel in impacted areas.

“Our regional directors have been asked to make available to the victims, notably the workers and their families, our emergency employment support,” he said in a phone interview. “The impacted areas in the Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.”

The intended beneficiaries will receive short-term employment that includes declogging, street sweeping, and other light public chores.

He said that people who receive temporary employment would be compensated according to the area’s current minimum wage.

According to Laguesma, if further funding is required for the initiative, they are also ready to do so.

According to their evaluation of the needs of the selected beneficiaries, the regional offices of the DOLE would make recommendations, he continued.
