OVP requests additional collaborations and considers expanding free-ride routes

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has urged the private sector to join growing partnerships that will supply the general public with essential services, particularly for the national extension of the OVP Libreng Sakay (free rides).

OVP Spokesperson Reynold Munsayac said they are considering adding Commonwealth Avenue for the Libreng Sakay route during a joint press conference on Thursday.

“May mga target routes pa ho kaming nakikita, since there are several accounts of people making heroic efforts in the Commonwealth, the Papuntang Manila area, or Quiapo. So, I’ve been working with several private partners. Idadagdag po namin ‘yan sa current fit namin para mas marami hong matulungan kung sana ho may mabubuting loob na hindi na masyadong pagkakagastusan ng gobyerno, (We are looking into several target routes because we are receiving reports that there are passengers along the Commonwealth area, en-route to Manila or Quiapo. Therefore, we are seeking private partners. Hopefully, there would be some charitable organizations, saving the government money. To assist more commuters, we will include them into our current setup, he said.

Munsayac mentioned that the OVP is ready to pay the drivers’ wages.

“Ang layunin talaga namin, makahanap ng private partners na magpapahiram ng bus,” (Our main objective is to locate private partners who will lend their buses.) Sagot namin ‘yung gasolina, sagot din namin ‘yung sweldo ng driver kung kailangan, repair, and maintenance. If necessary, we will pay for the drivers’ salary, repairs, and upkeep (including petrol costs),” he said.

For the OVP Libreng Sakay, the OVP first deployed five buses: two in Metro Manila, one in Bacolod, one in Cebu City, and one in Davao City.

Medical and burial expenses

In addition to the free rides provided by the OVP, Munsayac claimed that the central and satellite offices of the OVP have already processed millions of pesos’ worth of aid for medical and funeral expenses.

The amount of PHP11,482,023.40 for OVP NCR (National Capital Region) and the satellite offices has already been released, he added. “As of yesterday, OVP has already processed requests for medical and funeral assistance equal to PHP36,476,494.32,” he said.

In Bacolod City, they also opened their seventh satellite office.

Munsayac continued by saying that aid had been provided to earthquake-affected communities.

He noted that starter kits for cooking and eating, bottles of water, and medications were among the giveaways.

Earlier, according to Munsayac, the OVP said that it will also begin a livelihood program for women and members of the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Plus) community. The OVP is led by Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.
