Meralco lowered electricity costs in August.
Customers in Manila Electric Company (Meralco) franchise regions should anticipate lower electricity costs in August after the distribution utility announced a rate reduction.
The overall electricity tariff for August dropped by 20.87 centavos to PHP9.5459 per kilowatt hour from PHP9.7545 per kilowatt hour the previous month, according to a Meralco advisory released on Monday.
Meralco has made this modification for the second month in a row.
With the change, an average home using 200 kWh per month can anticipate an electricity bill reduction of PHP42 in August.
According to Meralco, the decrease in taxes and other costs, along with lower generation and distribution expenses, more than made up for the increase in transmission fees.
As a result of lower fees from Power Supply Agreements (PSAs), the generating charge for August decreased by PHP0.1944 to PHP6.5812 per kWh from PHP6.7756 per kWh the previous month, according to the statement.
This month, there was also a PHP0.0360 per kWh decrease in the distribution fees.
Meralco declared that it would carry out the Energy Regulatory Commission’s directive to implement the PHP48.3 billion in distribution-related refunds.
