On Tuesday, the House of Representatives leadership expressed optimism that the proposed national budget for 2023 will be approved before the deadline of September 30.

House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe claimed during a press conference that the lower chamber, which controls the purse, would pass the general appropriations bill (GAB) for the following year with no difficulty.

On August 22, the House will receive the National Expenditure Program (NEP), which served as the basis for the GAB.

On September 30, the House will go on its first break of the 19th Congress, and it won’t reconvene again until November 6.

In a separate statement, Quimbo stated that Zaldy Co, chair of the House appropriations committee, had pledged to quickly approve an “economic recovery budget” that would be in line with the executive branch’s 8-point economic program.

Quimbo stated that “Chair Co’s objective is to have an efficient budget review and approval process while giving equal emphasis to the subsequent oversight of the budget implementation process itself, respecting both the authority of the purse and the oversight function of Congress.”

She emphasized that in order to guarantee the prompt adoption of the federal budget, the panel has deployed extra budget sponsors for the ensuing discussions.

Co emphasized that proper budget use is even more crucial than a budget rise, and he pushed the committee members to be consistent in guaranteeing that the 2023 budget will be effectively absorbed and implemented.
