Despite rain, the Angat Dam water level continues to decline.
The water level in Angat Dam continues to fall as a result of recent rainfall.
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reports that the Angat Dam’s water level is 176.86 meters, which is significantly below the normal high water level of 212.00 meters.
The minimum operating level or critical level of Angat Dam, as stated by PDRRMO chief Liz Mungcal, is 180 meters.
Mungcal stated that the current rainfall in the country is insufficient to raise the water level in the dam.
She said this despite the fact that the Angat Dam has not released irrigation water to rice fields in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga for the past five days.
In a text message, Francisco Clara, head of Bustos Dam’s water control and coordination unit, stated that Angat Dam has not released irrigation allocation for Bustos since Sunday.
Since there is no release from Angat Dam, the National Irrigation Administration has been maximizing the use of precipitation for irrigation, according to Clara.
Angat Dam is the primary source of irrigation water for Bulacan and portions of Pampanga’s irrigated rice fields, with Bustos Dam distributing the water.
It also provides over ninety percent of Metro Manila’s potable water requirements.
