In Bataan, DPWH constructs a new flyover.

In Pilar, Bataan, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has begun construction on a new flyover with four lanes.

The Ala-Uli Steel Flyover is being built in Barangay Ala Uli in Pilar to relieve traffic congestion at the intersection of the Gov. J.J. Linao National Road and Roman Superhighway, according to a news release from DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain on Saturday (formerly Bataan Provincial Highway).

The project, which is one of the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project’s (MBURDP) priority projects, calls for the building and installation of a 17.3-meter wide by 607.750-meter long flyover made up of a 195.59-meter modular steel flyover, an 80-meter transition road on each side, and two approaches measuring 124.612 meters and 126.269 meters respectively.

Senior Undersecretary Sadain asserts that the exponential growth in the number of vehicles traveling to the Central Luzon province of Bataan, which is home to a special economic zone and freeport where people can find work, increased the strain on the country’s current road system.

The Roman Superhighway is one of the busiest and most important routes in the province since it accommodates all kinds of vehicles, from motorcycles to big trucks with trailers every day.

The flyover project, whose 18-month building length would facilitate transportation of goods and regional goods, is anticipated to further increase the province’s economic potential.

A more efficient traffic flow will also encourage people to travel to the province’s different tourist spots, generating employment opportunities for the locals.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) involving the Bataan Provincial Government and the local government unit (LGU) of the municipality of Pilar, the DPWH Bridges Management Cluster – Unified Project Management Office (DPWH-BMC-UPMO), DPWH 3 (Central Luzon), and the Bataan 2nd District Engineering Office governs the construction of the flyover.

According to the terms of the MOA, the DPWH-BMC-UPMO will supply the French-supplied superstructure materials for the flyover and transfer the available funds to the DPWH-3, who will hire a contractor to build the flyover’s two abutments, concrete pavement, and slope protection for each approach, as well as launch and install the superstructure of the bridge.

As the implementing unit, DPWH-3 will be in charge of making sure the contractor uses just the materials that are specified and adhere to building and safety regulations.

While this is happening, the provincial government and the LGU will work with the relevant public utility firms to relocate the impacted utilities and clear out any existing structures right away.

They will be in charge of planning the project’s traffic management and rerouting, including their enforcement, as well as the acquisition, payment, and clearance of road rights-of-way, access roads, and the like.
