In Bulacan, 60K bags of allegedly hoarded sugar were found.

During surprise inspections of four warehouses in Guiguinto, Bulacan, on Saturday afternoon, authorities found at least 60,000 bags of suspected stockpiled sugar.

The enormous amount of sugar was found when Bureau of Customs (BOC) employees used their visitorial authority to examine warehouses inside T12 Polo Land Industrial Estate, which is situated along Ilang-Ilang St. in Barangay Tabang, while armed with a Letter of Authority.

“Authorities discovered 50-kilogram bags of Thai-imported sugar in the warehouses that were under inspection. At least two of the warehouses were only half full, and one had sugar sacks neatly stacked to the ceiling, “In a statement, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) noted.

The sacks of sugar imported from Thailand arrived at the Manila International Container Terminal on Friday night, according to information provided by the warehouse keeper to BOC inspectors.

The 15-hectare T12 Polo Land Industrial Estate comprises 56 warehouses with an average size of 1,000 square meters, according to its Facebook page.

The OPS said that the allotment for Sugar Order No. 3 (SO-3) granted by the Sugar Regulatory Board in February was the import permission used for the Thailand sugar.

The veracity of the importation documentation that the warehouse keeper supplied to BOC officers is currently being checked.

Natural shortage

According to the OPS, Malacanang is currently considering the potential of an “artificial” shortage of sugar supply in the nation in light of the most recent event.

The statement read, “Malacanang has concluded that the sugar shortage is artificial, brought about by the hoarding of sugar traders who want to rake in huge profits from the sudden spike in sugar prices.” This conclusion has been supported by the enormous volume of sugar discovered by authorities in the various inspected warehouses in Luzon.

Prior to this, Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez was instructed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to urge the Sugar Regulatory Administration to account for the 63,000 metric tons (MT) of sugar that were included in the 200,000 MT of sugar that was permitted to be imported under SO-3.

At the Subic Port in Zambales earlier, the BOC also seized 140,000 bags of sugar from Thailand. In terms of weight, it is comparable to 7,000 MT of sugar.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service believed that sugar was imported into Subic using “recycled licenses.”

The investigation of sugar warehouses will continue, according to press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, as part of Marcos’ stepped-up battle against the illegal importation of agricultural goods.

In addition to Zambales, officials also visited and inspected sugar warehouses in the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Batangas, and Davao, as well as in the cities of Caloocan and Manila.

Florida Robes, a representative for the City of San Jose Del Monte, congratulated Marcos for his successful campaign to stop the doubtful importation of the valuable product as well as to prevent sugar prices from skyrocketing.

“The President’s series of decisive actions to combat a looming sugar crisis turned the tables on food hoarders and agricultural smugglers.” “Consumers and farmers are gaining in the meantime,” claimed Robes, the head of the House Committee on Good Government.
