The Marcos administration promised press freedom
On Thursday, Malacanang declared that the current administration guarantees press freedom and that it will work closely with media organizations.
In an impromptu interview, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles stated that the Palace would maintain ongoing civil discourse, particularly when news coverage is critical of the administration.
After the National Press Club (NPC) oath-taking ceremony in Malacanang, Cruz-Angeles reaffirmed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s pledge that the government will uphold and preserve the rights of journalists in the nation.
“You’re welcome to speak. Nothing is changing here. Any freedom we currently have will always be our own. That is guaranteed by our Constitution, she remarked.
Marcos has repeatedly stated that he will be amenable to criticism and opposition, particularly from members of the so-called fourth estate.
President Lydia Bueno (Remate), Vice President Kristina Maralit (Manila Times), Secretary Paul Gutierrez (People’s Journal), Treasurer Mina Navarro (Abante), and Secretary Leonel Abasola were sworn in (PNA, auditor).
According to the press secretary, the President personally administering the oath of office to the National Press Club’s newly elected officials was evidence of his support (NPC).
One of the country’s largest and oldest media institutions is the NPC.
Aya Yupangco (DWIZ), Jean Fernando (Manila Bulletin), Nats Taboy (Remate), Madelynne Dominguez (Manila Bulletin), Jun Mendoza (Philippine Star), NPC Directors Alvin Murcia (Daily Tribune), Jeany Lacorte (Abante), Benedict Abaygar (Manila Times), Bobby Ricohermoso (Saksi), and Joe Torres were also inducted (UCA News).
