MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has not endorsed a presidential candidate, despite the fact…
Palace: Marcos has not yet appointed the BI commissioner
The new director of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has not yet been chosen by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Malacanang reported on Monday.
Trixie Cruz-Angeles, the press secretary, released this statement in response to news that former dean of the New Era University’s College of Law and attorney Abrahan Espejo Jr. had been named as the BI commissioner.
Cruz-Angeles stated in a news release that “no appointment has yet been made to the position of Immigrations Commissioner.”
She said that no document for the aforementioned position has been provided and that her office has confirmed this with the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), which completes staff work on such appointments.
Rogelio Gevero Jr. was designated officer-in-charge commissioner of the immigration bureau by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla in July. Rogelio Gevero is the head of the BI’s Immigration Regulation Division.
Gevero succeeded BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, who had been chosen in July 2016 by the then-President Rodrigo Duterte.
Until a new commissioner is chosen this year, Gevero will serve as the organization’s head.
His appointment complies with Memorandum Circular No. 1, which declares vacant some posts in the Executive department’s departments, offices, agencies, and bureaus in order to maintain the delivery of services in an efficient manner.
