DBM is optimistic that Congress will enact a rightsizing measure.

The right-sizing of the bureaucracy plan from the Marcos administration was welcomed by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Wednesday.

This came about as Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman acknowledged that she had already given copies of the rightsizing plan created by the DBM to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

When the discussions started, Pangandaman said she would be “more than delighted” to lay out the specifics of the present administration’s proposal to right-size federal agencies before the MPs.

We will be more than happy to attend their committee hearings and discussions; she added, “I think kapag na-refer na po ito sa (I think, once it has been referred to the) right committee.”

She made the announcement while pointing out that numerous laws related to rightsizing had already been submitted to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In his first State of the Nation Address on July 25, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. pleaded with Congress to approve the rightsizing law and other important legislative initiatives.

The Marcos administration will choose which of the 187 federal entities with over two million employees can be streamlined through merger, restructuring, or abolition under the DBM’s rightsizing strategy.

According to Pangandaman previously, the planned rightsizing, which pertains to the government-owned and -controlled enterprises, intends to make the government “more agile and responsive.”

The idea will assist the government in making considerable budgetary savings that might be utilized to finance important initiatives in a number of different industries, including agriculture and health care.

However, the military and other uniformed employees, as well as occupations in the medical field and those associated with it, are not included in the rightsizing plan.

According to Pangandaman, people who may be impacted by the rightsizing may apply for roles that will be created.

Additionally, the government will offer a retooling program to enable employees to apply for open posts.

If affected employees choose to retire, they will get the proper retirement benefits.
