Davao City increases the number of satellite offices for its welfare program.

The “Lingap Para sa Mahirap,” the city’s main social welfare program, must be made bigger to meet the growing number of applicants who ask the local government for financial assistance.

According to Patrick Celis, the officer in command of Lingap Para sa Mahirap, there is a need to establish more satellite offices by the end of the current year.

At a press conference on Thursday, Celis said, “We are now receiving at most 500 clients everyday on average across our four locations; undoubtedly, setting up more satellite offices would aid in providing the public with efficient and quick service.”

Celis claimed that since he assumed the position in July of last year, the office has already helped 15,616 people. The number of claimants increased to 16,614 by the following month.

For clients’ medical requirements, funeral or burial costs, and hospital bill obligations, Lingap Para sa Mahirap offers health aid.

The Malasakit Center in the Southern Philippines Medical Center is home to Lingap’s main office. The four satellite offices, which were established in 2021 and are located in Toril, Marilog, Bunawan Proper, and Paquibato District, have been quite busy helping the growing number of people who are suffering financial difficulties.

In order to make the Lingap Para sa Mahirap program more accessible and contactless for Dabawenyos, the city government created an online platform in 2021.

In a previous interview, Mayor Sebastian Duterte claimed that the idea of building additional Lingap offices was required due to the city’s soaring population over time.

The new offices, according to Duterte, should be put in advantageous locations.

Beneficiaries can still receive financial assistance from other government agencies that get their funding from the national government, such as the Office of the Vice President, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, even though the city is funding the program.
