Iloilo establishes a center to serve families and OFWs
By passing an ordinance creating the Iloilo Provincial Overseas Filipinos Migration and Development (OFMD) Center, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) has made a program that addresses the concerns of OFWs from the province and their families permanent.
When the ordinance, which was approved on final reading during their regular session on Tuesday, goes into effect, the OFMD Center will be institutionalized under the provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO), according to board member Rolando Distura in a phone interview on Thursday.
All of our OFWs and their families’ programs, initiatives, and activities will be handled by the center. Eventually, the center will take care of all of their issues, including deployment, legal matters, and reintegration once they return home, according to Distura, who is also the ordinance’s author.
The office can connect OFWs and their families with government departments and organizations that can provide them with the financial opportunities, psychosocial support, educational chances, and other services they require.
Additionally, a system of monitoring and referral is anticipated to be put in place from the time of deployment until their eventual return home and reintegration.
An Internet connection and a phone with international calling will be made available to the office.
According to the regulation, the center’s operations will get 10% of the PESO’s annual budget.
“This will serve the needs of the families of our Ilonggo OFWs. Distura stated, “We have thousands of Ilonggo OFWs.
He stated that as soon as the governor signs the ordinance, it will become operative immediately.
The center was a branch of the Task Force Bulig Ilonggo, which the provincial administration had created at the height of the Syrian conflict in 2019, he continued.
