PBBM state trips to Singapore and Indonesia include discussions on WPS.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his counterparts in Indonesia and Singapore will discuss the South China Sea and other regional concerns, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Friday.

From September 4 to September 7, Marcos will make his first official state visit to the two Southeast Asian countries.

He will have meetings with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Indonesian President Halimah Yacob, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The DFA spokesman, Ma. Teresita Daza stated in a statement that “[a]side from addressing bilateral relations, there will be an exchange of ideas on regional and global issues.”

“Since all three countries are actually leaders and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members, there will undoubtedly be discussions on important regional issues of mutual interest, including the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea issue, aware that all three countries are actually – had the common goal to maintain peace and stability and prevent incidents in this particular part of the world,” she added.

According to the DFA, the visits demonstrate how seriously Manila takes its relations with other Southeast Asian countries.

In terms of numerous areas, such as security and defense, commerce and investment, people-to-people exchanges, and more, the Philippines enjoys active involvement with Indonesia and Singapore as neighbors and founding members of ASEAN, according to Daza.

The DFA claims that the excursions coincide with the time when the area is expected to become “a center of world attention.”

In November, Thailand will host the APEC Leaders’ Summit, Cambodia will host the ASEAN Summit, and Indonesia will host the G20 Summit.

In 2023, Indonesia will also serve as ASEAN’s chairman.

The delegation will include high-ranking officials like Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Felipe Medalla, Secretaries of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo, Finance Benjamin Diokno, Trade and Industry Alfredo Pascual, Budget and Management Amenah Pangandaman, and National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.

On September 6 at 6:00 p.m., the President will meet with Filipino community members at the Ho Bee Auditorium at the National University of Singapore.

Limited spaces require registration from participants. The event will be live-streamed, but walk-ins won’t be accepted.
