Feb. 2023 travel expo scheduled; more exhibitors anticipated: PTAA

According to the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), the ongoing holding of travel fairs after borders were reopened is evidence that the tourism industry is progressing toward recovery.

With foot traffic reaching 30,000 to 45,000 over the course of three days, the PTAA successfully concluded the 2022 Travel Tour Expo (TTE) and International Travel Trade Expo (iTTE) in July.

At the Pasay TTE and iTTE debut, PTAA President Michelle Taylan stated that the organization plans to quadruple both this number and the number of exhibitors.

About 400 exhibitors are anticipated to operate more than 1,000 booths the following year, including travel companies and airlines marketing various packages at a discount.

The expo will also sell travel deals to countries in Asia and even as far away as Africa in addition to local vacation packages.

In order to help the travel sector fully recover, Taylan added, “We want to contribute and be a part of it. We want to use our Travel Tour Expo as the main vehicle for promoting tourism in the country.”

The SMX Convention Center will host the 2023 travel expo from February 3 to February 5 of the next year.

Taylan stated that the company is optimistic about the sector’s recovery and cited the significant demand for air travel in the area.

“Based on our experiences with booking in (Southeast Asia), that is exactly their challenge right now because they have a small number of airlines this time, and many international tourists are arriving. Since the borders were reopened, the Philippines has experienced the same scenario.

The PTAA only forecasted a million international visitors for 2022, but according to the most recent statistics from the Department of Tourism, 1.3 million had already arrived by the end of the year.

“I can state that we are currently returning to our previous practices. And the point of recuperation is now. In particular, right now, we need and lack tourism front-liners, indicating that the tourism sector’s jobs are also returning, according to Taylan.

Our recovery is definitely underway, according to Patria Chiong, co-chair of the 2023 TTE.
