Ejercito requests that BOC do up additional raids against agri smugglers.

Senator JV Ejercito stated on Monday that the Bureau of Customs (BOC) needs to carry out more raids and pursue agricultural traffickers, as it hasn’t done much of either in recent years.

Ejercito bemoaned that the BOC started searching sugar warehouses only after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took over the Department of Agriculture in a press conference (DA).

“Nasaan na? Nung pinasa ang Anti-Agricultural Smuggling law? Do you know any big fish who are currently involved in smuggling agricultural goods? What transpired after the passing of the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Law? Did you catch major agricultural product smugglers? Ejercito stated, “I didn’t hear of anything.

Ejercito claimed that the Sugar Regulatory Administration had also been careless in pursuing violations and made a suggestion that careless DA officials may face penalties.

Ejercito predicted that charges would be filed against the authorities who had been careless in their duty.

Ejercito claimed that the nation’s present issues with sugar supply could have been avoided had the BOC been more proactive in identifying and apprehending agricultural smugglers.

He claimed that recent raids on warehouses housing sugar hoards provided conclusive evidence that agricultural hoarders were responsible for the scarcity.
