An official announced on Tuesday that the PHP25 million Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office for North Cotabato has begun offering passport processing and other associated services.

According to Mayor Jose Paolo Evangelista, the two-story DFA office on Alim Street would serve not just North Cotabato but also other adjacent communities in the provinces of Bukidnon and Maguindanao.

The mayor added of the DFA office, which is thought to be the largest so far in the Soccsksargen region, “This development will benefit all since it is also intended to stimulate progress in our local economy.”

DFA Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Affairs Jesus Domingo, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Henry Bensurto Jr., and Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority Teresita Socorro Ramos attended the opening of the DFA office on Monday.

On August 19, Domingo and Evangelista signed a memorandum of understanding for the opening of the neighborhood consulate.

The site for the consular facility, on the other hand, was provided by the local government, according to Evangelista.

According to Domingo, the office would provide routine services, including passport consultations, help for Filipinos and stranded foreign workers, and a civil register to update the status of the foreign workers.

On the other hand, Evangelista encouraged the DFA to connect with all embassies to promote regional customs and culture and open doors for investment. (
