Thailand anticipates Putin’s attendance at the November 2022 APEC summit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the November 2022 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) meeting, according to Thailand, the country’s deputy prime minister for foreign affairs Don Pramudwinai said on Tuesday.

“With the exception of the last three years, when the summit sessions were scheduled online due to the [Covid-19] pandemic, President Putin usually attended APEC summits. We anticipate the president’s participation at the APEC summit in November. “Speaking at a press conference after his discussions with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, the Thai minister made the statement.

Pramudwinai pointed out that the upcoming APEC conference could present Russia with the ideal occasion to reveal its policy shift toward Asia.

The minister stated that this summit would be a great chance for Russia to declare its policy shift toward Asia and its commitment to the post-pandemic growth of the Asia-Pacific region.

Pramudwinai continued, “We think that we [Thailand] will provide new dimensions for Russia and Asian nations in the southeast of Asia.

The 21 nations that makeup APEC. The 12 founding states—Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan—as well as China (which joined in 1991), Mexico, and Papua New Guinea (1993), Chile (1994), Russia, Vietnam, and Peru—are included in this group (1998). Taiwan and Xianggang (Hong Kong), two Chinese territories, also became members of APEC in 1991.

Members of APEC are typically referred to as “economies” due to the association’s details, which encompass states and territories.

Thailand, which previously held the organization’s summits in 1992 and 2003, will host the 2022 APEC summit in November.
