To assess the Covid-19 situation, PBBM meets with DOH and DILG.

In order to examine the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) situation in the nation, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with representatives of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday.

Following the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) suggestion to allow the optional wearing of face masks outdoors, Marcos called the meeting at Malacanang Palace in Manila.

In light of the IATF’s recommendation to make face masks optional outside, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with important representatives from the Department of Health (Philippines) and the DILG Philippines today to assess the Covid-19 situation in the nation, according to a Facebook post from the Office of the President (OP).

However, Marcos’ decision about the recommendation of the IATF-EID was not included in the OP.

Nevertheless, it was highlighted that despite his administration’s efforts to intensify the statewide immunization program, Marcos views the ongoing decline of Covid-19 infections as a positive development.

The DOH report, which revealed a consistent decrease in Covid-19 instances, was well received by President Marcos. The government’s enhanced countrywide vaccine rollout is credited by the DOH with achieving a low positive rate of 12 percent, according to the OP.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. was the one who first suggested making the usage of face masks optional.

Data from various Southeast Asian countries, according to Abalos, show that as long as minimum public health standards are strictly upheld, there is hardly any difference in the number of Covid-19 cases between regions where wearing face masks is required and those where it is partially or completely lifted.

Officer in Charge of DOH Maria Rosario Vergeire supported the idea of making face masks optional but urged everyone to keep wearing one, especially the most vulnerable.

Before the IATF recommendation, EID’s is implemented as policy, Marcos must approve it.

If Marcos rejects the plan to make the use of face masks voluntary, press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles reminded the people that they are still required to wear them.

The country recorded 2,404 more Covid-19 instances infections as of Thursday, bringing the total number of active cases to 24,032.

The DOH’s Covid-19 tracker, which was posted on its official website, shows that the total number of cases in the nation has now reached 3,898,882.
