Visitors to Baguio are warned about fake hotel advertisements.

The local city tourism agency has cautioned the public to avoid interacting with unauthorized people who advertise “excellent” lodging options on social media. It has directed travelers to call their offices for free support.

The city’s tourist officer, Engr. On Monday, Aloysius Mapalo stated that “we receive an average of five complaints every day, most of which are related to the expectations from the lodging.”

According to him, guests are certain that there is parking, a kitchen area, and other amenities when they transact with a representative from the lodging facility.

When the clients arrived, they might occasionally discover that these were untrue.

Since the city carefully enforces the no obstruction legislation, which forbids the use of roads, even in the villages, for parking, the lack of parking is a big concern for tourists.

Due to the frigid climate here, hot water for bathing is also among the most popular services among visitors.

Mapalo explained that tourists could contact the city government by searching “Baguio Visita” on Google. “We have the visita application where tourists can inquire, get information, and we will assist them if only to assure that the city’s name will not be tarnished by enterprising people who make promises but cannot deliver them,” Mapalo said.

exceeding pre-pandemic arrival rates

Considering the increased demand, fake lodging establishments have begun to spread throughout the city. An average of 50,000 tourists visit Baguio each week, with 30,000 to 35,000 of them coming during the weekends.

Mapalo claimed that even during the wet season, the present numbers are higher than they were before the outbreak.

In addition, hotels, inns, and guesthouses have reopened to make up for the losses incurred due to the Covid-19 shutdown.

We were ready to adhere to the safety protocols because, as you may recall, we were the first to open borders to tourists as early as September 2020, according to Mapalo.

a responsible journey

The official added that the city is encouraging tourists to travel responsibly, manage and dispose of their trash appropriately, and abide by the laws.

“We all want to avoid seeing trash. Thus, we advise visitors to dispose of their trash correctly. Baguio is a smoke-free city as well, and we expect visitors to follow this rule. Along with adhering to traffic and road restrictions, he said we also strictly enforce the no obstruction and illegal parking ordinances.

He forewarned that breaking city regulations would result in punishment.
