“Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is confident that Juan Ponce Enrile, his primary legal advisor, will not abandon him as he did with his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., in 1986.

In an interview with TV host-actor Toni Gonzaga that was broadcast on ALLTV Channel, Marcos recalled previous discussions with Enrile, whom he refers to as “Tito Johnny,” and how their relationship had been repaired.

Enrile, most known for establishing martial law, assisted in the 1986 ouster of the elder Marcos.

“I can’t think of why he would turn on me. Simply put, the times have changed too much for us to claim that you are familiar with Babalik Siya Sa Ganoon (that he would return to what he was before). Additionally, as you can see, this is the time of his life right now,” stated Marcos.

Enrile’s earlier actions, according to Marcos, were motivated by his desire to “protect the country,” he claimed. Marcos claimed to have previously questioned Enrile about his relationship with his father.

Marcos appointed Enrile as his top lawyer in June.

Chief of DepEd, Sara

Marcos stated Vice President Sara Duterte’s “forthrightness” persuaded him to choose her as Education secretary, even though he had chosen Enrile as his senior legal counsel because of his admiration for his intellect.

“‘Forthright’ is the word I keep using to describe VP Inday. “Whatever she says, she does, at least that’s what she says,” he stated.

Despite her assertiveness, Marcos claimed that Sara was the ideal candidate for the position due to her “patient” temperament as a mother—not only to her three children but also to the country.
