Talks between executives from Telco and CDO about new satellite towers for villages.

To increase connectivity in remote barangays, the local administration announced on Wednesday that it is negotiating with major telecommunications (telco) companies for more satellite towers.

Mayor Rolando Uy said that Smart Communications and its sibling firm, PLDT Inc., are willing to work with the municipal government to erect the towers and help reduce disaster risk.

“The Telco officers talked about the new satellite towers in Cagayan de Oro, especially in the barangays in the hinterland. Additionally, they welcome collaboration with the city authorities, particularly during tragedies, “added Uy.

The companies’ representatives paid Uy a courtesy call.

Based on information from the Northern Mindanao National Telecommunications Commission (NTC-10), the Smart company has been planning to build 150 new cell towers there since last year.

The Dito Telecommunity, another Telco company, finished 125 of the 157 cell towers intended for the area last year.

For this city, about 58 of the Dito towers were built.

In the area, Globe Telecom erected an additional 47 towers in 2021.

One of the few ongoing partnerships between PLDT and Smart in the area is with the city government.

Before this, the PLDT and Smart companies collaborated with the Department of Tourism Region -10 for its social media marketing improvement training under the “eBiznovation” initiative.

Through the Digital Farmers Program, the businesses have also created an arrangement with indigenous villages in Bukidnon in collaboration with the Agricultural Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture.
