DHSUD plans to construct 6 million homes under PBBM’s mandate.

With an average annual production rate of one million housing units, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) aims to construct six million homes for Filipinos over the next six years.

DHSUD Assistant Secretary for Support System Avelino Tolentino stated during the Laging Handa public briefing on Wednesday that the monies allocated in the program would not be used directly for housing development but rather for housing interest support.

“If we put housing interest support in place for our beneficiaries, it will increase their affordability level and make them bankable, which means that we can withdraw money from their accounts. It is also the secret behind this program since they are not bankable.

According to information provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the nation will require almost 6.5 million housing units this year.

The program of our President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. “aims to have, to generate” one million housing units every year, he added. “So, iyan po ang gusto nating solusyunan, gusto nating sagutin; kaya nga po ang programa ng ating Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ay ang magkaroon po, mag-produce po tayo.”

According to Tolentino, the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino program is not only considered a solution to the housing need, but it will also help the nation’s economy in the years following the pandemic.

Congressmen were thrilled to learn about the program during the House Committee on Appropriations budget hearing with DHSUD, describing it as “creative” and “out of the box.”

Tolentino remarked that Congress’ contribution to the efficient execution of DHSUD’s programs is “extremely crucial.”

“We really need the assistance of our congressmen because this program will require funding, the allocation of which will be decided by our House of Representatives. Kailangang-kailangan po ang tulong ng ating mga kongresista dahil ito pong programang ito ay mangangailangan po ng pondo na ang magdi-desyon po ay ang (We really need the assistance of our congressmen). We are thrilled and we view them as potential partners in this program, so natutuwa po kami at nakikita namin sila na magiging partners dito sa ating programang ito “added he.

Since taking office, DHSUD Secretary Jose Acuzar has met with local government units (LGUs) and traveled to potential housing project locations across the nation.

LGUs, according to Acuzar, are crucial to the success of the agency’s objectives.
