For two years, P529-B cancer assistance fund: DOH
On Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) reassured cancer patients that they would have two years to use the Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF) for their care.
Officer in Charge of DOH According to Maria Rosario Vergeire, the CAF has a total value of PHP529 billion and is good for two years.
She stated in a press conference that “our cancer patients who want to access this fund need not worry because it is available for use until next year.” Therefore, she added, “we can’t provide this fund to our patients who have cancer, but we do not want them to worry because it is available for use until next year.”
A joint memo circular on the CAF has been signed by the Department of Health and the Department of Budget and Management. It will soon start to be put into practice, she continued.
The Cancer and Supportive Palliative Medicines Access Program provides free medication to cancer patients through the CAF, a system established by Republic Act 11215—also known as the National Integrated Cancer Control Act.
Vergeire stated that the CAF would be distributed to several cancer hubs or cancer care facilities across the country, offering cancer patients diagnostic services, drugs, and other necessities.
This is not only for cancer patients; it also covers those who have had remission and require testing regularly, she continued. “Cancer patients are not covered here, but those who have had remission and need testing are included in this one,” she said.
The DOH will list hospitals that could be used to access the CAF.
