91M BSKE ballots will now be printed on September 21: Comelec

Over 91 million official ballots for the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will now begin printing on Wednesday, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The start of the printing, which was initially scheduled for Monday, has been delayed, according to poll body chair George Erwin Garcia, because of some last-minute instructions from the National Printing Office (NPO).

The Memorandum of Agreement with NPO will be signed, and Garcia will be responsible for entering the ballot’s secret marking.

The voting machine is scheduled to print 24,457,363 ballots for young voters and 67,061,585 for voters in villages.

Garcia stated that they are simply according to the plan on their calendar of activities and that they want to begin printing despite the polls possibly being postponed until Dec. 5.

“We want to stick to our schedule. Therefore, we must start printing. Otherwise, we might not have enough time, “In a television interview, he stated.

Garcia reaffirmed that even if the BSKE is postponed, the official ballots that will be printed would not be wasted.

The Comelec will simply pass a resolution declaring that the ballots used in 2022 and 2023 would be identical.

To delay the elections, several pieces of legislation are currently before the House of Representatives and the Senate.
