Cavite special elections hinge on the outcome of BSKE 2022: Comelec.
The outcome of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), scheduled for December 5 this year, will determine the outcome of the special elections for the 7th congressional district of the province of Cavite, a member of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) stated on Wednesday.
John Rex Laudiangco, the acting spokesperson for the Comelec, stated that they are considering two options for the extraordinary elections.
“If the BSKE passes in December, we’ll arrange the extraordinary elections for March 25, 2023. We are looking into the possibilities of holding the village and youth elections this year, either in late December 2022 or at the very least, in January 2023, he said in a message to reporters.
On Tuesday, the measure to move this year’s BSKE to December 2023 was approved by the House of Representatives on its third and final reading.
The Senate has yet to decide what will happen to the elections on December 5th.
On the other hand, Laudiangco stated that due to the transmission of the permanent vacancy of the province’s 7th district, resolutions are currently being prepared for holding special elections in Cavite.
“The necessary equipment and the budget are being arranged. We are considering conducting automated surveys because they are quicker and less expensive. At the Laging Handa briefing on Wednesday, he added, “The machines are there; all we need to do is write the program and print the ballots for it.
“Resolutions on this will be issued in the upcoming weeks. The holding of extraordinary elections for the representative of Cavite’s 7th District is certain, he continued.
After elected Representative Jesus Crispin Remulla accepted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s nomination to serve as the Department of Justice Secretary, the legislative position became vacant (DOJ).
The Commission en banc already named Commissioner Marlon Casquejo as the Commissioner-in-Charge for the Cavite special elections.
