Due to “gray spots” in the delay bills, the BSKE calendar was revised.

The activities schedule for the Dec. 5 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections was revised by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday for many reasons (BSKE).

As a result, the election body decided to change the deadline for submitting Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) from October 6 to October 13 to October 22 to October 29, 2022.

“The House version of the Bill does not contain a clause addressing what will happen to COCs submitted between October 6 and October 13, 2022, should the legislation delaying the BSKE become law. There is no guarantee that the Senate version will have the same clause about COCs filed during the specified period mentioned above, according to acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco.

Additionally, the Comelec voted to extend the gun prohibition from its original Oct. 6–Dec. 12 duration to Nov. 6–Dec. 20, 2022.

If the BSKE postponement bill becomes law, Laudiangco said, “any violation of the gun ban and other Prohibited Acts (Election Offenses) starting Oct. 6, 2022, that will be subject to preliminary investigation, inquest, or possibly filing of appropriate information in regional trial courts will be significantly affected and complicated.”

Even if the House version of the law was approved, the Comelec is still getting ready for the elections on December 5.

In the absence of a law delaying the election, Comelec Chair George Garcia stated that preparations for the polls would continue.
