GSIS loans aid in the storm recovery of members and pensioners.

Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), a state-run pension fund, will again make its emergency loan program available to help its members and retirees in Luzon, hit by Typhoon Karding.

According to a news release on Monday, members with an existing emergency loan balance may borrow up to PHP40,000 to pay off their prior emergency loan debt and still receive a maximum net sum of PHP20,000.

Pensioners and those without an existing emergency loan may apply for PHP20,000.

The loan includes a six percent interest rate and a two-year payoff period.

We are prepared to assist our kababayan (countrymen) in Luzon since we have set up PHP4 billion for our emergency loan budget this year. Wick Veloso, president and general manager of GSIS stated, “We will ensure that the loan assistance will be available to all qualified active members and old-age and disability pensioners based in the impacted districts.

Members in active service and not on an unpaid leave of absence are eligible to apply. They must also have paid their premiums for at least three months in the previous six months, have no pending administrative or criminal cases, and have a net take-home pay that is not less than PHP5,000 after all required monthly obligations have been met.

There are alternative lending opportunities available for members and pensioners who are not eligible for an emergency loan.

Members can apply for the Multi-Purpose Loan Plus, which has a PHP5 million maximum loanable amount, while retirees can use the Enhanced Pension Loan program to borrow up to PHP500,000 or as much as six months’ worth of their pension.

As part of its Adopt-a-School Program in collaboration with the Department of Education, GSIS also set aside PHP10 million in financial aid for 25 schools nationally, 10 of which are in Luzon.

The help includes infrastructure, furnishings, and support for technology and assisted learning tools.

Members and pensioners can get more information about GSIS’s programs by visiting the organization’s website (www.gsis.gov.ph) or Facebook page (@gsis.ph), sending an email to gsiscares@gsis.gov.ph, or calling the GSIS Contact Center at (887) 847-4747 (Metro Manila), (800) 847-4747 (Globe and TM subscribers), (800) 10-847-4747 (

With “Karding” still being categorized as a super typhoon at the time, the Polillo Islands as well as the very northern part of Quezon province, particularly the northern and central portions of General Nakar and the northeastern portion of Infanta, were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 almost the entire Sunday.

Due to the enormous damage to agriculture and infrastructure, Nueva Eija is also in a state of catastrophe.
