The Senate approved the P2.3 billion recommended budget for 2023 by OVP.

After receiving approval on Thursday from the Senate Committee on Finance, which Senator Sonny Angara chairs, the proposed national budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for 2023 can now be presented in the plenary.

Vice President Sara Duterte informed the committee that her office proposes to spend PHP2.3 billion next year under the 2023 National Expenditure Program when she was present for the budget discussion (NEP).

Implementing its Libreng Sakay, Disaster Operations Center, PagbaBAGo Campaign, Relief for Individuals in Crisis and Emergencies, Kalusugan Food Trucks, Peace 911, and Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day Program are among the OVP’s proposed budget items.

Duterte also reaffirmed to the senators her intention to construct seven OVP Satellite Offices, which will duplicate OVP services and supplement its disaster risk reduction initiatives, in Dagupan, Tacloban, Cebu, Bacolod, Tandag, Zamboanga, and Davao.

She also covered the OVP’s plans for setting up a permanent office, which will include a ceremonial space, a museum honoring past vice presidents, an office for administration, living quarters, and the base of operations for the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group.

According to Duterte, the OVP had initially set aside PHP10 million to purchase the land. “Right now, we are talking to GSIS about properties under them that can be gifted or sold to the Office of the Vice President as a permanent property,” he said.

“We are currently focusing on the Coconut Palace, one property. However, the GSIS has not yet identified or provided an amount, so we are still investigating other government properties, “Added her.

The OVP’s proposed budget has received the backing of Senators Ramon Revilla Jr. and Christopher Lawrence Go. They praised its tremendous creativity in bringing service closer to the people.

“According to what I’ve heard, the OVP has started opening satellite offices throughout the Philippines under the direction of VP Inday Sara. I am convinced that the OVP will bring service closer to the people with these reforms, but more importantly, it will bring service closer to more people. “During his manifestation, Revilla spoke.

“Knowing the vice president since she began her public career, I know that the fund will be used in her office at the DepEd (Department of Education), in the Office of the Vice President effectively and will not go to waste,” Go added.

The Vice President is harsher than his father when allocating government cash, according to Senator Go, a former Special Assistant to the President under the late President Rodrigo Duterte.

The DepEd budget hearing was held immediately after the brief 45-minute budget discussion by the OVP.
