PBBM advises mayors to be receptive to the “latest developments and innovative ideas.”

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has urged local officials to boost performance by utilizing cutting-edge technology and implementing novel ideas.

There is always room for improvement and opportunity. Marcos said to the mayors at the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP(mass )’s oath-taking of newly elected officers and directorate members at Malacanang Palace in Manila).

Based on a brief video clip posted by state-run Radio Television Malacanang (RTVM) on its official Facebook page on Friday night, he remarked, “Let us be open to all the latest technologies, new ideas, and fresh views in seeking and using the finest solutions for our people.”

Marcos gave the local chief executives advice on achieving the government’s infrastructure development and digital transformation goals through embracing relationships with the private sector.

He also reminded them of their responsibility as “fair and morally upright” leaders who want to provide a comfortable life for their constituents.

Let’s integrate private partnerships to optimize the level of service we provide to the public. Let’s use that to carry out important local projects, especially infrastructure and digitization,” stated Marcos.

During their preparations for the full transfer of responsibility to local government units, the local leaders were also given assurances by the Chief Executive of the national government’s support (LGUs).

To ensure that “no LGUs have been left behind” in implementing the full devolution of functions, he said that the Local Government Support Fund – Growth Equity Fund (LGSF-GEF) would be available.

“Let me promise you that this national government will do our best as we prepare for this year’s full devolution. The implementation of your transition plans is just one of the needs of this devolution that we will assist you with during the meeting, Marcos assured the LMP leaders.

In another Facebook post, he wished everyone to “take good care of the trust given in us by keeping to our vow to be just and morally upright leaders as we strive to fulfill our goals for our dear nation.”

Between 2022 and 2023, the LGSF-GEF Program will assist around 430 LGUs, including three provinces, seven cities, 150 municipalities, and 270 barangays.

The program intends to give LGUs identified as poor, disadvantaged, and behind additional funding to support the delivery of their key projects and services.

The LGUs’ infrastructure projects, like building roads, shelters for emergencies, or water systems, and non-infrastructure projects, such as providing financial relief or medical care, may be implemented with the help of the LGSF-GEF.

Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. instructed the 430 beneficiary LGUs on September 14 to use the PHP1.25 billion assistance grant to assist them in devolved activities and services, particularly on initiatives most advantageous to and responsive to their residents.
