PBBM is eager to pursue “grander, more ambitious” infrastructure projects.

On Monday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. stated that his administration is considering pursuing “grander” and “more ambitious” infrastructure projects to generate employment, enhance connectivity, and offer commuters in the Philippines comfort.

At the Metrowalk Commercial Complex in Pasig City, Marcos delivered this statement during the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

In his speech, Marcos said, “Let the groundbreaking of this subway system indicate to the world our resolve to pursue even greater aspirations and more ambitious initiatives that will bring comfort and growth to our people all around the country.”

He told the populace that his administration would continue and extend the government’s infrastructure initiative.

As part of the Build Better More Infrastructure Agenda that we have outlined, he continued, “Be certain that this government will take the lead in identifying, pursuing, and implementing projects.

Marcos hoped that Filipinos’ ambitions for a “better, brighter, and more prosperous” nation would inspire them to work for the improvement of their country.

“Minor annoyances”

At the same time, Marcos expressed excitement for “brighter days” after the two stations for the MMSP were built.

“Let us be hopeful and just view these tiny inconveniences as a modest price to pay for the productive benefits that this program, this project will generate,” he added. “It is a given that the construction of these structures would take time and cause disruption.

He wished for the project to be finished on time so that the public might immediately reap its rewards.

The MMSP, according to Marcos, will allow individuals to “skip long lines of traffic” and avoid the “perils of commuting,” he claimed.

With the improved connections between important areas and business districts in the Metro and the availability of stalls and other stores in the stations and nearby markets, he claimed that the government also sees more business opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors and increased economic activity.

“Our people may now engage in more valuable and constructive undertakings, making time for better self-improvement or equally vital spending quality time with their families,” he said. “As our people gain more time by cutting long hours of travel,” he added.

Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa of Japan to the Philippines, Chief Representative Takema Sakamoto of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Senators Grace Poe, JV Ejercito, and Mark Villar, and Mayor of Pasig City Vico Sotto attended the ceremony with Marcos.

The MMSP is a foreign-assisted initiative supported by the JICA under the Official Development Assistance program.

Shutting up skeptics

When the project was initially conceived, Villar, secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) during the Duterte administration, claimed that many people had doubts.

But now that the project has been realized, we are at this location. According to Villar, this first-rate subway system simply demonstrates our ability to compete with other developed nations.

Villar expressed his satisfaction that the “Build, Better, More” initiative of President Marcos will continue the nation’s “Golden Age of Infrastructure” and the “Build, Build, Build” initiatives of the previous government.

According to him, continuity is crucial for the country’s infrastructural development.

As DPWH secretary, Villar stated that because the MMSP will employ Japanese technology, he expected it to be effective, functional, and resilient.

“Inaasahan natin na ang (We anticipate that the) Metro Manila Subway will take our commuters to their destinations in the quickest possible time. An earlier arrival at their destination is meant by the phrase “at a speedier time to their family.” Villar added that they could spend more time with their family by giving themselves more time to travel.

When running, the subway can carry more than 370,000 people every day and shorten the time it takes to get from Valenzuela to Bicutan to just 45 minutes.

From the Shaw Boulevard corner to the front of Capitol Commons, there will be road closures in place until 2028.
