The government of Ilocos Norte is getting ready to establish a new division that will help farmers and fishermen fully embrace agriculture modernization and mechanization for the Philippines with reliable access to food.

This follows the provincial council’s Monday third reading approval of Draft Provincial Act 2022-08-008, titled “An ordinance forming the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Division of Ilocos Norte.”

“The normal budget for the new division must include funding for at least eight plantilla posts. Qualified agricultural and biosystems engineers will have access to this, “On Tuesday, Fe Siazon, a provincial human resources and management officer, said.

The new division will act as the provincial city’s planning, coordinating, regulating, and implementing bodies. Municipal levels on agricultural and fisheries engineering, mechanization, and infrastructure programs and projects to prepare the province for full devolution of agricultural and fisheries functions by 2025.

With the assistance of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the action intends to assist the province in generating local revenues and resource mobilization plans from regulatory fees and providing scholarships.

The pilot implementation of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering’s (DA-BAFE) project to strengthen ABE, particularly local government units, began earlier this year.
