Senators demand that Covid-19 One Health Pass be repealed.

Senators Nancy Binay and Christopher Lawrence Go stated on Monday that they no longer saw the One Health Pass’s (OHP) utility in the face of growing traveler dissatisfaction with the screening process.

For Binay, the OHP is increasingly causing problems for people, particularly for Filipinos who work abroad (OFWs).

It’s a big hassle for our OFWs and balikbayans because of additional screening, even though they are already quarantine-cleared and have all the necessary boosters and vaccines. “Mas malaking hassle sa ating mga OFW at balikbayan dahil dagdag na screening kahit quarantine-cleared at kumpleto sila sa bakuna at boosters.” From the perspective of tourism, this additional regulatory layer, whose performance isn’t even assured, may be deterring potential visitors, according to Binay.

Additionally, she requested that the Department of Tourism (DOT) and other government organizations work towards streamlining the procedures to compete with other nations as the travel and tourism sector begins to recover from the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Minsan, sometimes it helps to follow trends; it’s nakakatulong din na sumunod tayo. Even our Asian neighbors’ countries are already liberalizing and streamlining their admission procedures. According to Binay, there is no reason for us to be stricter if they are from cities with high vaccination rates, especially when it comes to nations with higher vaccination rates than ours.

Go expressed his agreement with the concept in a different remark, but he stressed that the Covid-19 pandemic issue should still be under the jurisdiction of the relevant agencies.

Go, the chair of the Senate Committee on Health, told the reporters during his visit to San Juan City, “Ang importante po ngayon ay magkaroon tayo ng (It is vital that we will have) more visitors and investors who would come our nation because we need this for our economic recovery.

According to Resolution 135 of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the OHP is mandatory for all arriving overseas tourists.

It tries to stop or reduce the arrival of people who may be carrying any newly emerging infectious diseases.

Through the website www.onehealthpass.com.ph, users can access the OHP.
