QC encourages environmentally conscious travel.

With safe and convenient facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians, Quezon City will continue to look for ways to encourage the use of bicycles while also protecting the environment.

The city administration has developed a network of bike lanes to encourage inhabitants to switch to a more affordable form of transportation, lessen reliance on fuel-powered automobiles, and contribute to a better lifestyle to realize the vision.

Along the 93-kilometer network of bike lanes in the city, the Department of Public Order and Safety’s Green Transport Office has so far erected bike ramps on four footbridges and in one underpass.

All 40 of the network’s footbridges have bike ramps and grade-separated crossing improvements under construction.

Five crossings have already been installed in the Quezon Memorial Circle underpass and footbridges along Commonwealth Avenue, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center, Quezon Avenue, and Katipunan Avenue. Commonwealth Avenue is home to the Philippine Coconut Authority and the University of the Philippines’ Asian Institute of Tourism (UP Town Center).

According to a statement released by the local government on Monday, “the local government will also install more concrete plant box barriers designed to make the bike lanes more attractive, safer, and to serve as an alternative and green upgrade to plastic barriers used as bike lane physical separators.”

Along Commonwealth Avenue, the Quezon City Parks Development and Administration Department proposes to install 210 more plant box barriers.

To serve more residential and business areas, the second phase of the QC bike lane network will connect to the first phase.
