PBBM strengthens the transportation sector with big projects
The government of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved or is currently carrying out a number of expensive infrastructure projects in the transportation industry, according to a report from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday.
According to the National Economic and Development Authority, the EDSA Greenways, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) West Extension, the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project, the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project, the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension, and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) are all still in progress as of March 9. (NEDA).
Out of the 194 high-impact projects included in Marcos’ “Build Better More” initiative, these projects are among the 67 infrastructure flagship projects (IFP) that have received approval or are already in progress.
The Metro Manila Subway Phase 1, Mindanao Rail Phase 1, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) rehabilitation, Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4), Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), New Cebu International Container Port, New Manila International Airport (Bulacan International Airport), North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), Philippine National Railways (PNR) South Long Haul, and the Subic Clark Railway are among the projects that have been approved or are currently under construction in the rail sector.
Six projects are still pending approval from NEDA, including the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation (InFRA) Phase 1 and the New Dumaguete Airport Development Project (Bacong International Airport).
The NEDA Board, under Marcos’ leadership, this week authorized 194 high-impact priority projects, with a total estimated cost of PHP9 trillion.
In order to help the government’s quest for additional infrastructure spending, the board also approved changes to the 2013 Joint Venture criteria.
