The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (NDRRMO) Operations Center’s alert level may be upgraded, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) stated on Tuesday, in light of Tropical Depression Amang’s predicted impact on a sizable portion of the nation.

According to Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, a spokeswoman for the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), “Alert status of the NDRRM Operating Center will be raised or maintained to Red or Blue.”

In light of the fact that “Amang” was seen about 475 kilometers east of Virac town in the province of Catanduanes, he continued, this is one of the OCD’s preparedness steps.

Alejandro stated that a pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) would also be carried out to ascertain the alert status and accompanying preparatory actions for the impacted provinces and areas.

In addition, he said, “Other precautions include careful coordination with all involved member agencies, assuring the availability and pre-positioning of response assets and relief items for immediate deployment and distribution.”

The OCD spokeswoman added that they will regularly watch for and communicate weather disturbance alerts and updates.

In addition, he asked everyone to continue following the NDRRMC’s recommendations for Covid-19 readiness measures.
