DESCRIPTION: Klein's Camp is set on the edge of the Kuka Hills and commands breathtaking views of the valley through which pass migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra. The majestic elephant rules this landscape, moving in numbers unequalled anywhere else in the Serengeti. The Klein's concession accommodates a maximum of 20 camp residents, in every sense the ultimate private Tanzanian safari and your own, personal piece of Africa.

Klein's is located in one of the most strategically positioned wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The camp is situated in a 10 000 hectare private sanctuary leased from the local Maasai community. Our safari operation shares the sanctuary with the local Maasai pastoralists who traditionally graze their herds alongside the wildlife. The camp is bordered to the north by Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve and to the west by the Serengeti National Park, into which we venture on thrilling game drives. CC Africa is taking an active role in involving the neighbouring Maasai people in ecotourism initiatives through participation in community projects, employment opportunities and sustainable resource use.

ACCOMMODATION: Klein's Camp comprises a main lodge and ten luxury cottages, set on the edge of the Kuka Hills, commanding sweeping views of the valley below. The camp contains just ten intimate, turn-of-the-century style cottages of local rock and thatch. The rich wooden floors and serene, classic interiors are reminiscent of the heydays of rugged safaris.

Each spacious cottage has an en suite bathroom. With showerheads the size of a dinner platter, our spacious enclosed showers offer you the sensory equivalent of an indoor cloud-burst. From each private terrace, a diversity of resident wildlife, including elephant, may be viewed in the valley. Askaris (Maasai warrior guards) accompany you to and from your cottage at night.

CUISINE: Savour wholesome Pan-African meals accompanied by flavoursome vegetables and freshly picked herbs from our Shamba, an organic African garden. Each meal is a culinary celebration. Dinners are served in the main dining area, which is graced by a large open fireplace, or in an enchanting bush clearing.

INTERIOR: Round stone walls and polished floors beautifully offset the soft cream and gossamer-fabric interiors. The décor at Klein's resembles an old Tangyanikan coffee plantation house.

LIVING SPACES: The camp has a large, beautifully furnished bar/living area, plunge pool, curio shop and leisure deck. The curio shop stocks locally made Maasai crafts. The shared living spaces - the restaurant and lounge - command spectacular views of the valley and surrounding hills. Klein's is ideal for honeymooners, special occasions and for those wishing to see big game in exclusive surroundings.

ACTIVITIES

GAMES DRIVES: Day and night safaris in open safari vehicles are led by experienced rangers and guides. These expeditions venture into the Serengeti, where you are guaranteed the thrill of elephants browsing just a few feet from the vehicle or marching through the savannah woodlands along the Grumeti River near the camp.

Klein's Camp offers the best of both worlds - the night drives, off road driving and game walks of a private concession combined with game viewing in the game-rich Serengeti.

INTERPRETIVE WALKS: Aside from game viewing the guided walks also offer the opportunity to learn about Maasai medicines made from trees, plants and seeds. Interpretive bush walks lead to the Kuka Hills, providing an opportunity for fine sightings of the magnificent Black Eagle, to mention just one of the astounding 350 bird species that frequent the area around the camp. Afternoon guided walks up and along the quartzite hills end with sundowners being served on the crest of a hill. These spectacular sundowners, with views all the way across the northern Serengeti, set the mood for sumptuous evening meals.

ADVENTURES: Community involvement is a very important element of Klein's operations. CC Africa recently reached an agreement with the local Olosokwan community that secures the camp's tenure. The community has also opened their manyatta (homestead) to the CC Africa guests, offering a rare insight into the ancient customs of tribal life.
Bush breakfasts at beautiful locations are a delicious way to end a morning game drive. We offer sundowners up on the quartzite hills. We are also happy to arrange private dinners.
