This year, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is building new One Town One Product (OTOP) hubs in Eastern Visayas with a larger budget earmarked for MSMEs.

OTP centers would emerge in Calbayog City, Samar; Catarman, Northern Samar; Maasin City, Southern Leyte; and Borongan City, Eastern Samar, according to DTI Eastern Visayas Regional Director Celerina Bato.

“The higher budget under OTOP Next Generation this year will allow us to open more OTOP hubs in addition to what has been operating in Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Baybay City in Leyte, and Catbalogan City in Samar,” Bato said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Friday.

With PHP14.3 million, Eastern Visayas received the largest OTOP Next Gen grant this year to support the region’s small enterprises.

The DTI’s top priority stimulus program for MSMEs in various parts of the nation is called OTOP.

This promotes goods and services particular to a locality’s competitive advantage, community resources, and cultural distinctiveness. The goods and services the region is best known for are offered in OTOP hubs.

One of the two elements of the DTI program supporting the supply side is OTOP, and NextGen.

According to the DTI, OTOP Next Gen offers MSMEs a package of support that includes product development activities, training, referrals, and other initiatives to aid in the improvement of their product’s design, quality, and quantity, among other things.

The OTOP is the additional element. The program’s supply side is supported by PH (Philippines Hub), which is. For OTOP products, this entails creating offline and online distribution channels and market access platforms.
