MANILA, Philippines — Foreign investors are invited to search for opportunities in the country’s agriculture and fisheries industry, particularly tuna, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

“We are proud tuna exporters. We export this high-quality fish from General Santos City, Mindanao, to countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan — their sashimi is made in the Philippines “In a virtual news event on Thursday, DA spokesperson Noel Reyes remarked.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar is in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates until Thursday for the five-day Gulf Food Hotel and Equipment Exhibition and Salon Culinaire (Gulfood) to promote the country’s agricultural goods on the global arena.

“With Philippine waters supplied with endless fish supplies and aquaculture as an expanding and promising industry, the fisheries sector also presents beneficial commercial prospects,” Dar said in his presentation in Dubai.

Dar stated that the sustainable management of tuna in the Philippines, as well as the construction of post-harvest and processing facilities for local marine fisheries, offer “a multitude of investment potential.”

Seaweeds, which are ranked second in the world in terms of value, produce large returns even with minimal investments, according to Dar.

The DA has previously signed an agreement with Baladna Qatar Public Shareholding Company to build a USD500 million integrated dairy complex in Qatar.

Dar promoted Philippine fruit crops such as carabao mango, pineapple, and banana, in addition to fisheries and dairy.
