There will be no longer size restrictions on polling materials in private residences.
DUMAGUETE CITY — On Thursday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental said that there are no longer any restrictions on the size of posters, tarpaulins, and other campaign materials used by-election candidates in private locations.
As the Comelec prepared for the opening of the local campaign season on Friday, lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, the Negros Oriental province election supervisor, said, this was the direction issued by the Comelec to its various elections offices nationwide.
“They may even put up life-size posters if they want, and the Comelec won’t take them down as long as they’re in a private location,” he stated in a combination of English and Cebuano.
However, election propaganda materials displayed in public venues, such as Comelec-designated common poster spaces, must adhere to the poll body’s size requirements.
Meanwhile, Castillano announced that on April 7, a regional-wide Oplan Baklas, or the removal of illegal posters, will take place.
According to him, this was in response to an instruction from Comelec Region 7 director lawyer Dennis Ausan.
Castillano urged candidates to assist the Comelec in removing their own campaign posters from power poles, trees, and other public sites that are not designated as common poster areas by the poll body.
