MANILA, Philippines – According to the Department of Energy (DOE), the country conserved a total of 65.32 megawatts of energy during this year’s Earth Hour celebration.

From 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 26, Filipinos were urged to participate in this year’s Earth Hour by turning off non-essential lights.

Luzon saved the most energy at 35.26 MW, followed by Mindanao at 15.3 MW and Visayas at 14.67 MW.

DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi has urged Filipinos to conserve energy not just during Earth Hour, but throughout the year.

“Through consistent energy efficiency and conservation practices, we hope to sustain this reduction.” The first step is to be conscious of our energy consumption habits, particularly during peak demand periods, such as this summer,” Cusi said.

He added that the agency will continue to advocate for energy efficiency and conservation efforts nationwide.

Energy efficiency and conservation contribute to the reduction of energy consumption, which has a significant impact on the environment.

The DOE has been urging Filipinos to conserve energy, particularly during this period of elevated global oil prices.
