The government reports P149 billion in tourism revenue.



According to the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) year-end report, the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. collected PHP149 billion (USD2.6 billion) in tourism-related revenues as of November this year.
The Philippines is known as the top beach and diving destination in the world, and the DOT recorded 2.4 million foreign arrivals in 2017 or 75% of the agency’s goal.
The DOT established a goal of 1.7 million foreign visitors every year.
The DOT stated that it expects 6.4 million international arrivals in a high scenario and 2.6 million in a low scenario for the upcoming year.
The organization also detailed its objectives and initiatives for 2023, with its main emphasis on connection, convenience, and e-government (Quality).
These programs fall within the DOT’s Seven-Point Agenda, which aims to enhance the country’s overall tourism experience while also promoting equal product development and bettering tourism infrastructure.
The DOT announced that, in order to increase connectivity, it will continue to cooperate with government organizations that support tourism, open up Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) properties to development through public-private partnerships (PPPs), promote cruise tourism with at least 136 ports of call in over 40 islands, hold regional travel fairs, create tourism circuits, and support locally initiated tourism infrastructure.
The DOT also aims to increase convenience by developing tourist rest areas and information desks, enhancing the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence, and raising accreditation standards to protect the Philippine tourism industry’s competitiveness.
The National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028 will be finalized and approved under the DOT’s e(Quality) initiative, the Philippine Experience Program will be introduced, and overwintering package deals will be created.
The DOT also has plans to promote Halal tourism, open Mindanao to tourism, hold national job fairs throughout the Philippines, and broaden the markets for tourism opportunities.
